Traditional innovation approaches are often beset with challenges such as long and inflexible development cycles, high capital requirements, and budget and schedule overruns. Many companies also struggle to scale innovation from initial efforts to broader adoption. This does not bode well with the needs of businesses today, in an era where new ideas and technologies spread fast. Leaders of companies like GE and IBM have spoken about their need for speed – to get new products and services faster to market than ever before, about being more responsive to market needs, and to tap into the fast moving world of startups. Many companies also recognize that disruption can come from unexpected sources, new players, technologies, and changing business models.

As a result, a plethora of new innovation approaches are emerging – from external innovation through corporate venturing and partnering with accelerators, to applying design thinking and lean to internal innovation efforts.

In this session, we will explore various innovation approaches. Discussion topics include
• Why speed and external perspectives are important to innovation
• What are different ways to organize for innovation
• How companies can tap into external sources of innovation
• How companies can significantly accelerate their internal innovation efforts

It is imperative for business leaders today to understand the role of innovation in creating competitive advantage, and how companies can organize to accelerate their innovation efforts. Join us for this thought provoking conversation if you are directly responsible for innovation efforts in your company, or if you are a business leader and would just like to gain a better appreciation of how innovation practices are rapidly evolving.
