The Booth Alumni Club of NYC is hosting a Tech Venture Investing panel with 5 investors whom have backgrounds from financial to strategic investing. NYC is a hot bed of entrepreneurship and we will learn what these investors find compelling in the area of Technology.

Courtney Hall (Panelist) '03
Managing Director, Hillcrest Venture Partners

Mr. Hall is a founding partner at Hillcrest Venture Partners. He manages the firm's investments in nProgress and also managed the firm's investment in Phoenix Energy Technologies (Acquired by Duke Energy, NYSE: DUK). Prior to his investing career, Courtney was the starting center for the NFL San Diego Chargers from 1989 to 1997.

He holds a JD/MBA from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Economics and Managerial Studies from Rice University.

James Robinson (Panelist) '04

Mr. Robinson is a co-founder and Managing Partner at Caerus Investment Partners. He is an active member of the NYC startup community as both a venture capitalist and an angel investor. Prior to founding Caerus, James advised technology and media companies for 10 years as a Wall Street investment banker where he primarily focused on the IT services and payment processing sectors.

He has a BS from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

Mr. Kulkarni grew up in Bangalore, India, as the self proclaimed, biggest basketball fan in the world. Vasu joined the JV Basketball team at U of Penn and graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering and Entrepreneurship. When he isn't playing ball, he's watching it – as CEO and Chief Intern of Krossover – a SaaS platform that saves coaches and athletes time by being an outsourced video coordination and analytics department. Vasu is also the founding partner of Courtside Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm that invests in technologies that can be applied to the world of sports.

Ms. Cheng is a corporate development executive with over 12 years of experience in tech. At her role at Adobe, Elley focuses on developing strategic partnerships as well as Adobe's M&A and investment activities. Prior to Adobe, Elley was in Tech M&A investment banking at B of A Merrill Lynch. She began her career at the Accenture Technology Labs, where she advised startups on their go-to-market strategies. Subsequently, she launched an international business for a SaaS startup, which was later acquired by Thoma Bravo. Elley received her MBA from the Booth School of Business in 2010 and has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the U of California at Berkeley.

Ian Chapman-Banks (Panelist) '02

Mr. Chapman-Banks is a Scientist by training, and a marketing technologist by nature with an MBA from the Chicago Booth Business School. He has over 25 years in senior positions at Apple, Microsoft, and Dell, and was the regional CEO of a 3 billion dollar business for Motorola in Asia Pacific. While searching for technology investments in Asia, he discovered this new technology and helped found SQREEM Technologies over 6 years ago. He is now setting up offices in New York.

SQREEM's core technology allows them the ability to gain insight and intelligence via unstructured, publicly accessible data on the internet, as well as internal client data, if the client so chooses. SQREEM is also helping its capital market clients to benefit from a truly innovative technology by combining detailed knowledge of trading and big data. SQREEM's engine processes everything from search engine queries, news publications, social feeds, and more. SQREEM is able to draw relationships between items, brands, people, and how they all interact with each other.
