In 2007, we succeeded in establishing a non-profit organization (eingetragener Verein) for our alumni club. The financial authorities in Frankfurt have officially recognized the "University of Chicago Booth School of Business Alumni Club Germany e.V" status to make donations to the University.
This is a significant development because donations by alumni residents in Germany are now tax deductible within the limits of §10b German Income Tax Act (Einkommensteuergesetz). Furthermore, it is also possible to earmark your donations to a particular school of the university (Business School, Law School, College, etc.)
Upon receipt of your donation, our club will issue a confirmation letter which can be used for tax purposes in Germany. On 8 August 2007, the Frankfurt Tax Office V recognized our tax non-profit status StNr. 47 250 44210 - K 09. We confirm that the donations will not be used for membership or registration fees but will be used exclusively to support educational institutions of the University of Chicago (Exhibition 1 to §48(2) Income Tax Implementation Order - Chapter A No. 4).
Nach Erhalt Ihrer Spende werden wir Ihnen eine Zuwendungsbestätigung zukommen lassen. Wir sind aufgrund der Förderung der Bildung durch vorläufig Bescheinigung des Finanzamtes Frankfurt/Main V, StNr. 47 250 44210 - K 09, vom 8. August 2007 als gemeinnützig anerkannt. Es wird bestätigt, dass es sich nicht um sonstige Mitgliedsumlagen oder Aufnahmegebühren handelt und die Zuwendung nur zur Förderung der Bildung (im Sinne der Anlage 1 zu § 48 Abs. 2 Einkommenssteuer-Durchführungsverordnung - Abschnitt A Nr. 4), ggf. auch im Ausland, verwendet wird.
How to Make a Tax-Deductible Gift
Gifts to any school or division (e.g., Chicago Booth, the Law School, the College) may be made by filling out a donation form and sending a check or making a money transfer.
